About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Pensions Actuarial Consultant to join our team at Mercer (UK) Limited. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will provide clients with expert advice on funding, investment, risk transfer, and covenant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver customized advice and solutions to clients, with a primary focus on DB pension schemes.
  • Lead on the preparation and delivery of both day-to-day and strategic advice, finding tailored solutions that meet clients' needs.
  • Lead client meetings and presentations, providing an informed view on current topics based on client circumstances.
  • Utilize strong technical actuarial skills to consult with clients and communicate with them in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Act as final technical reviewer for actuarial calculations and agree the strategy, direction, and resourcing for client work.
  • Perform supervision, appraisals, and act as a mentor for employees under supervision, or informally via feedback on client work.
  • Act as day-to-day contact for clients, ensuring problem resolution, and be involved in new business prospect activity.
  • Participate in setting and negotiating fees, where appropriate, and monitoring of fee budgets.
  • Provide guidance to and peer review the work of colleagues.

Requirements:

  • Fully qualified Actuary or nearing qualification.
  • Awareness of current pension issues and how they impact clients, including key considerations and ability to talk about these and tailor your response to specific circumstances.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong analytical, numerical, and critical thinking skills, including a good understanding of actuarial approaches for pensions.
  • Ability to manage projects, including distribution of work to junior colleagues.
  • A strong understanding of a range of ways in which UK pension schemes operate.
  • A willingness to learn new skills and be adaptable in a changing environment.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Excellent planning and organizational abilities, in order to prioritize and complete work.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Significant experience working with trustees and/or corporates on DB pensions within an actuarial consultancy role.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Demonstrated business acumen, adaptability, and a desire to be in front of clients, all underpinned by the required technical skills.
