The Role: Student Support Specialist
As a Student Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and success of our students. You will be a dedicated point of contact for students facing various challenges, providing guidance, support, and resources to help them navigate personal difficulties and achieve their academic goals.
Responsibilities:
- Provide compassionate and effective pastoral care to students experiencing a range of challenges, including mental health concerns, financial hardships, and social difficulties.
- Manage a caseload of students, conducting both online and in-person sessions, and staffing drop-in services to ensure accessibility and responsiveness.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student interactions, referrals, and outcomes, adhering to data protection regulations.
- Assess and prioritize student needs, escalating concerns when necessary and collaborating closely with academic and campus teams to provide comprehensive support.
- Proactively inform students about available support services within the university and contribute to the delivery of well-being interventions and workshops.
Qualifications:
- A strong educational background with a demonstrated understanding of student well-being services in higher education.
- Experience working with young adults and a comprehensive knowledge of common challenges faced by this demographic.
- An empathetic and inclusive approach, coupled with excellent communication and administrative skills.
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively, demonstrating resilience in managing a demanding workload.
- Comfort liaising with internal colleagues and external agencies to ensure seamless support for students.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
