Job Summary

Norwich City Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Planner to join our team. As a key member of our planning department, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our city.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with our planning team to process and determine complex and major applications, including Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA). You will be responsible for providing expert advice and guidance to applicants, councillors, and members of the public, ensuring that development in Norwich is delivered in a way that meets the needs of our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work independently at a senior level to deliver the statutory development management function, providing advice and support to stakeholders on all aspects of the development management process.
  • Investigate unauthorized developments and participate in the enforcement process, ensuring compliance with planning regulations.
  • Develop and implement spatial planning policies and strategies that support the regeneration and sustainable growth of Norwich, aligning with the council's vision and goals.
  • Supervise and train junior planners, coordinating workload and ensuring efficient delivery of planning services.
  • Provide a customer-focused service, delivering excellent results and driving service improvement and efficiency.
  • Contribute to the delivery of an effective and focused Planning and Regulatory service for the council, ensuring that our community's needs are met.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Extensive experience in planning and development management, with a strong understanding of planning regulations and policies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex planning issues.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
