Radiation Protection Specialist

This role is based at the UKAEA site in Culham, Oxfordshire.
The successful candidate will be responsible for deputising for the Head of Profession, Health Physics, on matters of radiological protection.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring the safety of all operations on plant and equipment owned, operated or worked upon by the group or outside contractors.
- Ensuring staff are suitably qualified and experienced to undertake tasks.
- Assisting in the delivery of training courses in radiation, beryllium and transport safety.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Providing advice and guidance on matters related to Schedule 4 of IRR17.
- Implementing requirements for controlled and supervised areas.
- Examining plans for installations and accepting new or modified sources of ionising radiation into service.
- Calibrating equipment for monitoring levels of ionising radiation and checking that it is serviceable and correctly used.
- Examining and testing engineering controls, design features, safety features and warning devices.
Salary: £72,436 (inclusive of MPP) + excellent benefits.
Minimum requirements include:
- Certified and Appointed Radiation Protection Adviser.
- Degree or substantial relevant experience in radiation protection.
- Radiation protection professional qualification.
- Certified and Appointed Radioactive Waste Adviser or working towards it would be beneficial.
