About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our team at a dynamic and inclusive school dedicated to supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). As a HLTA, you will play a vital role in supporting both students and teachers within the classroom and beyond.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with teachers to plan and deliver differentiated learning activities in line with students' individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Lead small group sessions and one-to-one interventions, targeting literacy, numeracy, and emotional well-being.
  • Provide targeted support to students with ADHD, dyslexia, trauma, and other SEND needs.
  • Assist in the development and adaptation of learning materials to ensure accessibility for all students.
  • Take on a key pastoral role, supporting students' emotional and social development.
  • Work collaboratively with the SENDCo and other staff to monitor and track student progress, contributing to reviews and assessments.
  • Support the development of student independence through scaffolded learning strategies and behaviour management techniques.
  • Provide in-class support for students during lessons, ensuring a calm and positive learning environment.
  • Act as a role model for students, demonstrating calmness, empathy, and resilience, even in challenging situations.
  • Provide feedback to teachers and contribute to the continuous improvement of classroom practice.
Qualifications and Experience
  • HLTA qualification or equivalent (Level 4 or higher) is essential.
  • Previous experience working with students with SEND, preferably in a secondary school setting, or a willingness to work with KS3/KS4 students.
  • A good understanding of the specific needs related to dyslexia, ADHD, and trauma-informed education.
  • Proven ability to manage challenging behaviours with empathy, patience, and a calm demeanour.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
