We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our Power Networks Team at NPL, focusing on the development of innovative measurement methods and instrumentation to ensure the reliable and efficient operation of the UK electricity grid.


The Power Networks Team collaborates closely with industry partners, research organisations, and universities to advance grid measurement solutions. As a Research Scientist, you will contribute to activities including:



  • Setup and operation of laboratory testbeds for electrical measurements related to power grid phenomena
  • Development of software for automatic hardware configuration and data analysis
  • Development and testing of new measurement methods and instrumentation for power quality and grid stability monitoring
  • Preparation and deployment of instrumentation for field measurement campaigns
  • Collaboration with international research organisations and universities
  • Presenting research results through publications, reports, and presentations at symposia and conferences

This role offers a unique opportunity to work with and learn from Senior Scientists, addressing cutting-edge measurement challenges in electricity networks. The work is project-based and varied, ensuring continuous adaptation of skills and capabilities to solve new problems.
