We are seeking a highly accomplished and visionary academic leader to serve as the Executive Dean of our Faculty of Social Sciences. As a key member of our executive leadership team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of our faculty and driving excellence in research, education, and innovation.

About the Role

The Executive Dean will provide academic leadership for the faculty, overseeing performance, staffing, and financial management. You will line manage key academic roles, including Faculty Deans and Heads of Department, and be supported by a faculty support team and professional services.

You will be appointed to a substantive Chair (Professorship) in one of our academic departments, with the opportunity to revert to your home department at the conclusion of your term of office. This is a three-year appointment, with eligibility for re-appointment for a further three years.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide academic leadership for the faculty, driving excellence in research, education, and innovation.
  • Oversee performance, staffing, and financial management of the faculty.
  • Line manage key academic roles, including Faculty Deans and Heads of Department.
  • Collaborate with the faculty support team and professional services to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Contribute to the development of the University's Strategic Plan and its implementation.
Requirements

We are seeking a candidate with a PhD in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience, and a distinguished academic record, including an internationally excellent research standing. You should have a proven track record of successful academic leadership at a senior level in a higher education institution, with excellent planning skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

The successful candidate will be appointed to an ASER post, with education and research responsibilities, and will need to be publishing at a minimum of 3* level and fit within one of our existing Units of Assessment.
