About the Role

The University of Essex is seeking a highly experienced and accomplished academic leader to take on the role of Executive Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. As a senior member of the University's executive leadership team, you will play a central role in shaping the strategic direction of the Faculty and contributing to the University's overall success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic leadership for the Faculty, with responsibility for performance, staffing, and financial management.
  • Line manage key academic roles, including Faculty Deans and Heads of Department.
  • Contribute to the University's executive leadership team and play a key role in the delivery of the University's Strategic Plan.
  • Be appointed to a substantive Chair (Professorship) in one of our academic departments, with the opportunity to revert to this role at the conclusion of your term of office.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a PhD in a discipline relevant to the University, or an equivalent level of experience, and a distinguished academic record, including an internationally excellent research standing. You will also need to have a proven track record of successful academic leadership at a senior level in a higher education institution, with excellent planning skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a diverse and international environment.
