About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our team at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As an ANNP, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care to newborn babies and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide advanced nursing care to newborn babies on the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU), Transitional Care, and postnatal ward.
  • Carry the emergency neonatal resuscitation bleep and attend high-risk deliveries.
  • Undertake duties expected of Tier 2 practitioners as outlined by the British Association of Perinatal Medicine (BAPM) medical workforce standards.
  • Support the Tier 1 duties undertaken routinely by junior medical doctors, over a 24/7 rota.
  • Cross clinical boundaries between nursing and medical care, taking on aspects of the role and responsibilities formerly undertaken solely by medical staff.
About Us

Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is a general district hospital providing care to families across West Dorset. Our hospital has a dedicated level 1 SCBU, which routinely cares for infants > 32/40 and > 1250g. We offer stabilisation, intensive, and high dependency care when required, while supporting parents through the necessary transfer to other hospitals for ongoing care.

Our team is augmented by AHP colleagues from occupational health and physiotherapy, and we have a newly developed Transitional Care model, which shares care with midwifery colleagues. We pride ourselves on our family-integrated care approach, providing parents with facilities to help achieve this.

We are committed to bereavement care, supported by colleagues from the paediatric team, and utilise either the dedicated bereavement suite on the children's ward or the facilities on SCBU, dependent on parental wishes.

  • ANNP qualification/Master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice
