About the Role

National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is seeking an experienced Cyber Security Engineer to join the team responsible for maintaining and implementing technical controls from endpoint, across network and into cloud.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing and acting upon security alerts generated by tooling.
  • Monitoring environment for potential threats, vulnerabilities and indicators of compromise.
  • Acting as escalation point for other members of security team, providing assistance and mentoring where necessary.
  • Contributing to development of SOC procedures and documentation.
  • Assisting with remediation activities.
  • Understanding Threat Intelligence and its use.
  • Producing new workflows for automation tools.

Successful Applicants must be able to commute to NPL offices in Birmingham at least twice a week.

NPL is now working in hybrid way, with mix of remote and office working. We strive to offer great work life balance - if you are looking for part time or flexible options, we will try to make this work were business possible.

About You:

Key Requirements

  • Experience working with security tooling such as SIEM, IDS and Vulnerability Management.
  • Knowledge of common network protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Understanding of security architecture.
  • Having worked within hybrid Azure environment.
  • Experience of securing multi-site IT environment and hybrid / remote mobile devices and computers.

NPL actively recruits citizens of all backgrounds, but the nature of our work in this specific area means that nationality, residency and security requirements are more tightly defined than others. To work in this role, you will need to have an SC clearance with no restrictions, or you must have ability to obtain an SC clearance.
