About the Department & Team:

The Business Development team at Liberty Specialty Markets is responsible for coordinating trading relationships with brokers and clients. We focus on key strategic relationships, initiatives, and opportunities, working closely with underwriting, claims, and operations to optimize broker performance and ensure profitable growth across multiple lines of business.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with the Head of Broker Management, Business Development, and Underwriters to agree and execute strategies for business development.
  2. Build, manage, and maintain external relationships with multiple brokers across FinPro lines.
  3. Create and maintain relationship matrices reflecting your and internal stakeholders' broker relations.
  4. Effectively communicate the LSM strategy to broker partners and internal stakeholders.
  5. Implement the broker management strategy as agreed with the Head of Broker Management, London Executive, and Underwriters, across FinPro lines.
  6. Deliver a first-class service in respect of business forecasting and result analysis.
  7. Monitor the implementation of business plans and the performance of brokers against targets, recommending appropriate development focus or remedial action, as required.
  8. Contribute to targeting corporate entertainment to ensure 'best spend' where business needs developing/boosting.
  9. Participate in ensuring company representation at all major events and informal functions.
  10. Collaborate with underwriters to develop a pipeline that fits with company appetite; assist with renewal defense negotiations and new business pitches.
  11. Keep up to date with broker changes, e.g., joiners, appetite, wins/losses, and notify the wider Business Development team and Underwriters.
  12. Stay abreast of market changes and competition and feed back to the business.
  13. Performance manage underachieving brokers in conjunction with the Head of Broker Management and Underwriting Managers.
  14. Identify and manage cross-sell opportunities with new/existing clients, collaborating with other members of the Business Development team, Underwriters, and Client Managers.
  15. Product Development - identify and help bring new products/distribution models to market.
  16. Utilize Salesforce for data capture, insights, and as a cross-sell and client management tool.
  17. Adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements, and demonstrate behaviors as set out in the Conduct Risk Policy, as they relate to your role, is core to LSM's commitment to our Liberty Values, placing customers at the centre of our business and behaving with integrity.
Skills and Experience:
  1. Capable of producing and managing challenging Broker development plans.
  2. Fully PC and technologically literate. Salesforce an advantage.
  3. ACII qualification desirable, but not essential.
  4. A sufficient level of numeracy and ability to compile and analyze revenue and other data, drawn from a range of systems.
  5. An understanding of Retail insurance with a good level of London market awareness.
  6. Experience of business development/account management in any sector.
  7. A clear understanding of the company's strategic objectives, and how we seek to deliver these through operational plans.
  8. Strong interpersonal/influencing skills, with the ability to develop and maintain external relationships.
  9. A team worker, able to establish and maintain relationships with, and the trust of, underwriting, claims, and support services.
  10. A self-starter, with initiative, drive, the ability to devise creative solutions, solve problems, and follow through to achieve results.
  11. Effective communication and presentation skills – capable of producing and delivering effective presentations.
  12. The ability to establish and develop strong relationships at all levels within the Broker market, and with intermediaries, maintaining a good knowledge of their structures, philosophy, and business objectives.
