Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine to join our dynamic team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the Paediatric Emergency Medicine service, providing high-quality care to patients, and ensuring robust PEM teaching and training for all doctors and nurses within the department.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Emergency Medicine, with experience in paediatric emergency care, and excellent leadership and communication skills.

As a Consultant in Paediatric Emergency Medicine, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing clinical leadership and supervision of junior medical staff
  • Ensuring all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment, and clinical decision-making while ensuring quality and safety are delivered and sustained
  • Working with the Nurse Coordinator to ensure effective and timely communication between the clinical team, providing timely intervention and safe care to maintain optimal patient flow
  • Ensuring robust PEM teaching and training for all doctors and nurses within the department
  • Coordinating paediatric resuscitation courses
  • Liaising with other paediatric departments in the hospital and the associated hospitals in the network
  • Leading the Paediatric Emergency Medicine service

The successful candidate will be a registered member of RCEM and have a strong commitment to the speciality. They will also have excellent organisational and teaching skills, as well as good verbal and written communication skills in English.

Requirements
  • Primary medical qualification
  • Full Registration with General Medical Council, FCEM, FRCA, FRCS, MRCP, or equivalent
  • Entry on Specialist register or in receipt of CCT within 6 months of interview
  • Evidence of achievement of CT1/2/3 ACC Emergency Medicine competences or evidence of 36 months training in CT1/2/3 levels in all specialties that make up ACCS and CT3
  • Emergency Medicine Training Programme
  • PEM sub-specialist qualification through RCEM or RCPCH
  • ALS, EPALS/APLS, ATLS (ETC)
