Job Title: Residential Childcare Deputy Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Residential Childcare Deputy Manager to join our team at Bay View. As a key member of our management team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our residential childcare services.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Registered Manager in the leadership and management of the day-to-day operations of the Home.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Home, ensuring that National Standards are consistently exceeded.
  • Improve the lives of all young people residing at the Home, through purposeful and systematic interventions.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including family, friends, placing authorities, and healthcare providers.
  • Develop and maintain a culture of trust and mutual respect within the Home.
  • Manage staff fairly and professionally, ensuring that all objectives are achieved and staff turnover is minimized.
Performance Standards:
  • Care plans are produced, reviewed, and submitted in line with pre-agreed timescales.
  • Legal requirements, Ofsted standards, and company policies are adhered to at all times.
  • Feedback from residents, family, friends, and other stakeholders is noted and communicated to the Registered Manager.
  • The Registered Manager is kept informed of all important issues and developments within the Home.
  • Staff are aware of the standards of behavior required and any deviations are addressed promptly.
  • Staff are approachable, friendly, and professional, creating an open and positive environment.
  • The Deputy Manager is aware of their responsibilities regarding the rota, sleeping duties, and on-call arrangements.
Business Management and Improvement:
  • Deputise for the Registered Manager when they are not physically present.
  • Ensure that no element of the expenditure budget is exceeded without prior permission.
  • Ensure that the quality of food provided meets pre-agreed standards.
  • Assist with menu planning, cooking, and purchasing of foodstuffs.
  • Lead the weekly staff meeting, ensuring that all staff have the opportunity to communicate concerns and ideas.
  • Involve staff in decisions that affect their daily work.
  • Hold a senior staff meeting to prepare for the weekly staff meeting.
  • Communicate ideas for medium-term improvement of the Home.
  • Raise any problem areas or issues with the Registered Manager.
Staff Management:
  • Manage staff fairly and consistently, in line with the core values of the Home.
  • Deal with day-to-day staff management issues promptly and professionally.
  • Document conduct or performance issues and inform the Registered Manager.
  • Manage employee absence in accordance with the agreed policy and procedure.
  • Conduct return-to-work interviews as necessary.
  • Ensure that staff are deployed effectively on each shift.
  • Manage the appearance of staff to meet the agreed standard.
  • Carry out regular performance reviews with team members.
  • Assist in the development of high-quality training and development plans for staff.
Health and Safety:
  • Ensure that all legal health and safety requirements and company policies are complied with.
  • Follow good personal hygiene standards and address any deviations promptly.
  • Ensure that all staff abide by health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Follow safe systems of work at all times.
