About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic Health Care Assistant to join our Care Team at James Hopkins Trust. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to life-limited and life-threatened children and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist nursing staff in delivering safe and quality care to children staying at Kites Corner.
  • Maintain agreed standards of care and contribute to the monitoring and review of care plans.
  • Create a safe, secure, and stimulating environment that promotes the child's emotional, social, and physical well-being.
  • Recognize the importance of play in a child's development and provide a stimulating and enjoyable environment.
  • Work flexibly under the guidance of the nursing team to support the children's needs.

About Us

James Hopkins Trust is a registered charity that has been providing free nursing respite care to hundreds of life-limited and life-threatened young children and their families for 35 years. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Person Specification

  • Excellent interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Treats all children, young people, and families with dignity, respect, and understanding.
  • Ability to work under supervision and recognize own limits.
  • Ability to work constructively within a team.
  • Demonstrates initiative, reliability, and a flexible approach to working.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Level 2 Early Years NVQ, BTEC, or equivalent.
  • NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care.
  • Proven experience of communicating sensitively in challenging situations with patients and families.
  • Demonstrates high standards of care.
  • Previous experience of caring for or working with children aged 0-5 in a voluntary or paid capacity.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Level 3 Early Years NVQ, BTEC, or equivalent.
  • NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care.
  • Makaton awareness.
  • Knowledge/experience of working for a charity.
  • Worked with children and younger individuals with complex nursing needs.
