Job Title: Design Manager

Our client, a leading UK contractor, is seeking a Design Manager to lead the design function and manage a range of projects from tender through to construction completion.

Purpose of the Role

The Design Manager will be responsible for managing and coordinating design activities for complex projects, ensuring that client expectations are met while applying value engineering principles to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Key Accountabilities
  1. Lead the design function, coordinating both internal and external design teams on live projects.
  2. Develop relationships with design partners and subcontractors, ensuring performance and compliance with project requirements.
  3. Chair and minute design team meetings and workshops to address buildability and cost-effectiveness.
  4. Manage the design relationship between the client, subcontractors, and the professional team.
  5. Proactively manage risks, opportunities, and value engineering throughout the design phase.
  6. Ensure design deliverables meet procurement and construction requirements.
  7. Drive production and monitor KPIs to ensure the design process is efficient and effective.
Competency Requirements
  1. Strong leadership skills with experience managing design functions on complex infrastructure projects.
  2. Proven ability to manage relationships with clients, subcontractors, and design partners.
  3. Strong problem-solving skills and commercial awareness.
  4. Familiarity with MS Office and collaborative platforms.
  5. Knowledge of WIMES and other design standards.
