About the Role

We are seeking an experienced SHE Advisor to join our team, providing specialist coaching, advice, and training to drive legislative compliance and promote continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance. As a key member of our delivery team, you will be responsible for:

  • Supporting projects in the delivery of our Health, Safety, and Environmental strategy, ensuring managers assume full responsibility for their activities.
  • Providing Health, Safety, and Environmental input into the tender and contract award process.
  • Acting as a single point of contact for advice and expertise on Health & Safety matters to project teams, ensuring the effectiveness of Construction Phase Plans.
  • Providing environmental and sustainability guidance to meet our targets, metrics, and net zero drivers.
  • Supporting and undertaking accident/incident investigations to establish root causes and communicate learning points.
  • Challenging existing working methods to incorporate Health, Safety, and Environmental good practice during design and construction phases.
  • Contributing to a safe and secure culture through behavior-based coaching at all levels within the project.
  • Liaising with the wider construction industry to share and implement lessons learned.
  • Coordinating, developing, and maintaining positive relationships with local stakeholders, the HSE, Local Authorities, EA, and SEPA.
  • Providing expert advice on CDM regulation requirements for gas projects, covering various roles such as Client, Principal Designer, and Principal Contractor.
  • Supporting and guiding project representatives on their SHE roles and responsibilities in line with National Grids/Cadent/SGN QMS.
  • Undertaking reviews of Fastflow/contractor documentation, participating in site safety meetings, H&S Audits, and Sensible Monitoring Inspections on gas projects.
  • Providing independent H&S audit capability to the delivery teams for a portfolio of projects through pre-construction and construction phases.
  • Ensuring suitable controls and processes are in place for the development and ongoing management of the CDM Risk Register and monitoring of the suitability and effectiveness of the Contractor's temporary works inspections on gas projects.
  • Assisting project team representatives with the review of contractor's competence and identification of training needs.
  • Providing monthly H&S data and safety stats to line management as needed.
  • Developing internal relationships to resolve issues, develop internal learning, and identify opportunities for collaboration.

About You

We are looking for an individual with:

  • Good interpersonal skills, with proven skills in coaching and motivating people.
  • Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all organisational levels, including Senior Managers.
  • Ability to recommend preventative action, develop new initiatives, and coordinate or ensure their implementation.
  • Ability to develop and deliver training/briefing material in an innovative, enjoyable, but effective way.
  • Demonstrates determination to achieve business goals despite opposition and displays personal commitment.

Qualifications

  • NEBOSH Certificate and considerable relevant construction SHE & Gas industry experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of Environmental management requirements.
  • Current full UK driving license.
  • EUSR Cross Country Pipelines / SHEA Gas.

Desirable

  • Diploma (or equivalent) in Health & Safety and/or considerable relevant SHE & Gas industry experience.
  • Membership of a safety or environmental professional body or engineering institute to incorporated or chartered level.
  • Formal auditor training ISO 9001 /14001/18001 trained.
