Job Overview

The Taranaki Regional Council is seeking a highly skilled Scientist - Land and Water to contribute specialist expertise, knowledge, and technical leadership in the areas of soil and water chemistry. This role requires a relevant qualification in environmental sciences and experience in scientific data collection, analysis, and reporting.

About the Role

This position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering environmental monitoring programmes, research, and investigations. You will use your skills to contribute specialist input across a wide range of Council activities and work closely with the Team Leader - Environmental Assurance, Manager- Environmental Assurance, and the Director- Environment Quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and manage environmental monitoring and research programmes relating to land use impacts on receiving freshwater, groundwater, and coastal/marine environments.
  • Collate scientific data and information and communicate it effectively to stakeholders.
  • Use Microsoft Office suite, database, and information systems, including Iris, Hilltop, and ESRI GIS, and have experience using 'R' or similar programming language.
  • Awareness and understanding of the National Environmental Monitoring Standards (NEMS), the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA), and the National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management 2020 (NPS-FM).
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in environmental monitoring and research.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
