Job Title: Operational Manager Role

We are seeking an experienced Operational Manager to lead our Endoscopy Service at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. This is a challenging and unique role that requires strong leadership and management skills.



Job Overview:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing day-to-day leadership and management of the Endoscopy Suites at both the Northern General Hospital and Royal Hallamshire Hospital. This role will involve overseeing the management of administrative services, leading service redesign, and ensuring that the necessary resources are available to deliver clinical and non-clinical services.



Main Responsibilities:


  • To oversee the management of administrative services in support of the provision of high-quality care, teaching and research, within a patient-centred environment.
  • To lead service redesign involving front-line staff and patients in delivering effective, efficient and timely services, in a cost-effective way.
  • To ensure that the necessary resources are available to deliver clinical and non-clinical services.
  • To take responsibility for delivery of activity, waiting list, RTT waiting time and cancer waiting time targets, including regular activity modelling and capacity planning.
  • To contribute to service development bids, business cases and capital bids.
  • To work with the GRaDE Care Group to ensure that accurate, timely information is available to support service delivery as well as the delivery of objectives / targets.
  • To ensure that staff are informed and engaged with planning / objective-setting and receive regular feedback on directorate performance.


Person Specification:

The successful candidate will possess:




  • Education to degree level or relevant experience.
  • Grade C GCSE Maths and English.
  • Post-graduate qualification (desirable).
  • Staff management experience, including the setting of objectives, appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary issues.
  • Experience of managing clinical services and of building effective working relationships with both immediate management and wider clinical teams.
  • Experience of delivering service improvement or modernisation initiatives.
  • Experience of managing, monitoring and controlling budgets.
  • Experience of analysing data to inform requirements for service redesign/service improvements to maximise capacity utilisation.
  • Evidence of report writing and presentation skills.
  • A detailed knowledge of 18week targets, diagnostic targets, cancer pathway targets, capacity and activity targets for clinical services.
  • A clear understanding of confidentiality when dealing with matters relating to staff and patients.

  • Demonstrable leadership skills and the ability to motivate others and demonstrate honesty, integrity, fairness and tenacity.
  • A commitment to promoting equality and diversity in the workplace and in service delivery and development.
  • Enthusiasm and ability to seek out and resolve problems in order to improve patient care including an appetite to challenge the status quo.
