As a Junior Laboratory Technician, you will be responsible for routine tasks to ensure the efficient operations within the customer lab space, freeing up time for scientists to focus on their work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform regular calibration and verification checks on laboratory equipment to ensure it operates at optimal levels.
  • Maintain and clean lab equipment to preserve scientific quality and integrity of customer projects.
  • Assist with general laboratory tasks, including maintenance of equipment, stocking of consumables, chemicals, and reagents, and overall lab upkeep.
  • Carry out specific tasks tailored to meet customers' requirements.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols, and guidelines related to required tasks.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across functions to resolve technical problems.
  • Maintain training and compliance in health and safety, security, environmental, and operational aspects of daily activities in the working environment.
  • Identify and propose continuous improvement initiatives to enhance ways of working.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate attention to detail and understanding of basic laboratory principles.
  • Possess excellent organizational skills, with ability to troubleshoot and solve problems independently.
  • Excellent communication skills are essential for effective collaboration.
  • Basic experience with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong customer service and relations skills.
  • Able to critically review and improve processes.

Working Environment:

  • The successful candidate must be able to work in a laboratory setting, adhering to controlled environments that require personal protective equipment (e.g., lab coat, safety glasses).
  • The job pace may be fast, with high demands for timely completion.
  • The employee must be able to remain in a stationary position for more than 25% of the time.
  • Occasional movement between labs, corridors, adjoining rooms, and buildings onsite may be required.
  • Frequent operation of instruments, objects, tools, or controls necessitates regular bending, squatting, stretching, and reaching.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds (potential for occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds) may be required.
  • Specific vision abilities necessary for this position include observing details at close range, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus to perform essential duties.
  • The employee may occasionally operate a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
  • Handling hazardous waste according to local, state, and federal regulations may be required, including identifying, handling, generating, accumulating, storing, and labeling hazardous waste.
  • The role involves potential exposure to lab-based hazards, including extreme temperatures, biological materials, and hazardous chemicals.

To excel in this role, the successful candidate may be required to complete Medical Clearance, Respiratory Protection Training, and Fit Testing to wear a respirator as protection against hazards present in the laboratory environment.
