Senior Specialist Speech and Language Therapist Birmingham

We are seeking an inspirational and thoughtful person to join our dynamic team at West Heath House. Our assessment centres, rehabilitation units and hospitals use expert neurorehabilitation to support people to regain the skills they have lost. We treat people with a range of brain injuries – sustained through trauma, illness, substance abuse and more – to recover and meet their personal goals.

The Service:
West Heath House works with people who have to cope with a range of cognitive, physical and / or emotional symptoms following a severe brain injury. Rehabilitation is based on a neurobehavioral approach and focuses on enabling service users to function more independently and to participate in as many of their previous roles and activities as possible, while developing their lives with privacy, dignity and respect.

The Role:
As a Senior Specialist SaLT, you will provide strategic, professional leadership to the multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team. Your responsibilities will include:

• Assess how a person's communication impacts on their day to day life and provide intervention as appropriate.
• Work with the person and their social network to problem solve and overcome barriers.
• Assess communication and provide a management plan and rehabilitation (as appropriate) seeking specialist assessments as required
• Provide training to staff and our service users social network
• Be integral to service and organisational development.

About you:
What are we looking for?

• The successful applicant will have a Degree in Speech and Language Therapy
• Registered with the HCPC
• Achieved Dysphagia Competencies
• Specialist knowledge of SaLT models and interventions in ABI e.g. social communication, cognitive communication, communication partner training.
• Able to manage complex dysphagia within an adult neurology caseload
• Minimum 4 years qualified experience encompassing complex case management
