Job DescriptionSenior Mechanical Project Engineer Role
The Senior Mechanical Project Engineer will be responsible for leading the development of fluid systems, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and the supply chain to deliver the system design.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a small team to develop fluid systems.
- Review and develop design documents, including Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Layout Drawings, Component Sizing Calculations, Datasheets, and Specifications.
- Conduct optioneering studies, lead and review Decision Record Files, Design Descriptions, and Requirement Specifications.
- Apply Systems Engineering principles to develop and review Functional and Design Requirements.
- Ensure the fluid system design integrates seamlessly into the wider power plant.
- Provide technical support for interfaces and stakeholder activities.
- Participate in Design Reviews and HAZID/HAZOP studies with multidisciplinary teams.
- Liaise with the safety team on nuclear safety licensing, environmental planning/permitting, and related interface activities.
- Adhere to statutory H&S policies, project quality, and safety rules.
Requirements:
- Background in nuclear, thermal power, oil and gas, or other highly regulated sectors.
- Experience in fluid system design development.
- Proficient in roles covering FEED to detailed design and EPC delivery.
- Skilled in developing procurement specifications and collaborating with suppliers.
- Strong technical background in thermal power or similar projects.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with stakeholders.
- Ability to identify and manage critical interfaces on major projects.
- Knowledgeable in UK Health and Safety regulations, safety systems, HAZOP, and engineering standards.
- Familiar with ASME, European, and UK codes and standards.
- Experience or awareness in Systems Engineering is a plus.
Personal Specification/Attributes:
- Results-Oriented: Independent, proactive, and results-focused team player.
- Strong organizational skills, handling confidential nuclear information professionally.
- Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in engineering.
- CEng in a relevant discipline or working towards it.
- SC Clearance or ability to achieve it.
