About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Intelligence Engineer to join our team at OpenSourced - Search & Selection. As a key member of our Engineering team, you will play a pivotal role in driving data-led initiatives to inform business decisions and optimize operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Data Pipeline Development: Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines between business systems and the data warehouse.
  • Reporting Solutions: Build and optimize Power BI reporting solutions to meet evolving business needs.
  • Data Quality Assurance: Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline issues to ensure timely resolution.
  • Query Optimization: Optimize Power BI DAX to deliver high-performing reports.
  • Version Control: Manage version control of data components, ensuring robust governance of pipelines, reports, and integration processes.
  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Conduct testing across all data pipeline components to ensure high-quality solutions.
  • Business Partnership: Be the key point of contact for all data solutions, ensuring the business has access to the data they need to make informed decisions.
  • Cloud-First Principles: Apply modern cloud-first principles to design high-standard data solutions.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with the IT and business teams to support data function improvements, helping junior staff members and bridging technical knowledge gaps.
  • Project Delivery: Drive the delivery of data and business intelligence requirements across multiple projects.
  • Data Quality Improvement: Develop and implement data quality improvement roadmaps for core applications.
  • Technical Leadership: Collaborate with internal IT teams (service desk, infrastructure, security, software engineers) to ensure smooth delivery of solutions.
  • Problem-Solving and Analysis: Proactively suggest and implement data quality improvements to drive business benefits.
  • Agile Project Management: Manage sprints within agile project management guidelines to ensure timely delivery.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Provide clear analysis, plans, and timescales for delivering key functionality across different departments.
Requirements
  • Technical Expertise: Strong experience with Python or TypeScript.
  • SQL Skills: Advanced SQL skills, with experience in Redshift or OLAP systems preferred.
  • Database Concepts: Solid understanding of database concepts including DDL, DML, DQL, TCL, and DCL.
  • Query Optimization: Query optimisation expertise and experience improving performance.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Proficiency in Liquibase and infrastructure as code (ideally Terraform).
  • Version Control Systems: Experience using version control systems like Git/GitHub and familiarity with modern DevOps principles.
  • Data Integration: Expertise in integrating data from various sources (e.g. REST APIs, SOAP APIs, S/FTP servers, GraphQL, webhooks).
  • AWS Serverless Infrastructure: Experience with AWS serverless infrastructure (e.g. API Gateway, Lambda, SQS, SNS, Kinesis).
  • ERP and Financial Systems: Familiarity with ERP and financial systems, along with a basic understanding of financial processes (e.g. ledgers).
  • Agile Project Management: Experience working in an agile environment and understanding agile project management principles.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving and Analysis: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Data Modelling Principles: Knowledge of data modelling principles and relational database management systems.
  • Technical Leadership: Technical leadership experience is highly desirable.
