We are working with a local council to recruit a Finance Improvement Manager to join their team on an interim basis for an initial 6-month contract.
The successful candidate will be working on the Finance Improvement & Recovery programme, which aims to raise the standards of financial management within the Council. This will involve systematically diagnosing and correcting the organisation's financial management issues, while delivering quick wins to improve management.
The programme will drive efficient and effective working, ensuring that finance recovery and improvement work is coordinated with other activities. Key attributes required for this role include:
- Accountancy qualification (CIPFA or equivalent)
- Extensive knowledge of best practice standards in local government financial management and good working knowledge of various areas such as procurement, internal audit, and council companies
- Ability to draw on contacts and evidence from elsewhere to benchmark, identify professional and operational standards, and know the art of the possible
- Experience of working on a disciplined and methodical programme, systematic in nature, and able to hold others to account to follow agreed processes and procedures
- Track record of successfully delivering service improvement and transformation in a local authority or public sector context
