This exciting role offers a chance to work on significant financial services issues and make a real difference in people's lives.

The Banking and Credit Team is a high-profile group of about 20 people with diverse interests across substantial financial services issues.

We lead the Treasury's policy work on retail banking, mortgages, business lending, building societies, and mutuals, dormant assets, and competition in financial services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver mortgage policy recommendations, focusing on areas like green mortgages and economic abuse.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and developments in the mortgage market, providing regular updates to seniors and Ministers.
  • Work closely with external partners, including industry, financial regulators, and government teams.
  • Support senior and ministerial engagement with the mortgage lending sector, providing guidance and ensuring effective engagement strategies.
  • Monitor and respond to parliamentary, public, and press activity, identifying and tracking developing policy issues.
  • Be a key point of contact for mortgage policy, handling issues and queries with expertise.
