Leicester, Leicester, United Kingdom Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust Full time

Job Overview

Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust is seeking a qualified Clinical Associate in Psychology to join their Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams. The successful candidate will provide care for working age adults experiencing severe mental health difficulties.

The Neighbourhood Team is a multidisciplinary setting, including Peer Support Workers, Health Care Support Workers, Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, Psychiatric Nurses, and Occupational Therapists. As a Clinical Associate in Psychology, you will have the opportunity to acquire a range of psychology skills, with the support and supervision of a qualified psychologist.

The role involves assessing, formulating, and delivering psychological therapy to individuals on a one-to-one basis, as well as evaluating progress. You will also apply formulation skills to support the team in working with individuals who require alternative support.

The ideal candidate will have a desire to learn and apply psychological skills and knowledge to help people with mental health difficulties. A key characteristic is the capacity to form good working relationships with people, both staff and service users. The ability to listen, understand, empathise, and communicate is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the needs of individuals and identify potential risks
  • Weigh conflicting components of complex problems or situations
  • Monitor own effectiveness with each patient and determine whether consultation or supervision is required
  • Ensure referral to a designated supervisor when case complexity exceeds competency
  • Monitor situations or interventions through formal evaluation and modify plans or treatments to achieve better outcomes
  • Balance the welfare rights of individuals against the duty of care to the wider community where behaviour poses a significant risk
  • Participate in clinical governance activities
