This is a unique opportunity for professional development, allowing you to make a positive impact on the well-being of our staff community while developing your skills in conflict resolution, empathy, and confidentiality.

Job Overview:

The role involves advising and supporting staff members who have experienced harassment, bullying, or other forms of mistreatment, providing them with information on how to address the situation and identifying appropriate support services.

You will be trained to work autonomously, maintaining confidentiality and dealing with clients professionally and empathetically. This role is not a counselling position, but rather a trained advisor role that signs off and supports staff as they seek to resolve issues through the Report and Support system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise and provide clients reporting harassment, bullying, etc. with information on how the behaviour they are experiencing can be dealt with;
  • Identify appropriate support for clients where required;
  • Be aware of other internal and external services which can offer counselling, support or practical and legal advice;
  • Be familiar with equalities legislation and the University's policies;
  • Keep accurate records of meetings with clients, including a summary of the advice given;
  • Take responsibility, on a rota basis, for being the first responder to clients accessing the Harassment Report and Support Service;
  • Attend monthly network meetings;
  • Attend training when required; and
  • Raise awareness of the Harassment Report and Support Service.

Skills and Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you will require:

  • Experience of working with students and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • The ability to work autonomously;
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with existing policy;
  • The ability to deal with clients professionally and with empathy at all times; and
  • Completed the online How We Work at Essex essential training, specifically the EDI section.

Estimated Salary: £25,000-£30,000 per annum, depending on experience. The salary range reflects the estimated annual income based on the job description, location, and industry standards.
