About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Area Ranger to join our South Lakes countryside team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and supporting a small team of rangers to lead our operational work across Hawkshead, Claife, and Tarn Hows.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and support a small team of rangers to deliver conservation, access, and land management improvements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local communities, farm tenants, and other stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with farm tenants to explore opportunities to deliver more for nature across their farms and the wider landscape.
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory obligations and maintain high standards of presentation, practical work delivery, and contractor management.
  • Identify opportunities to inspire and involve local and wider audiences, sharing the work of our rangers and enabling everyone to feel welcome.
Requirements
  • Strong practical access and habitat management experience.
  • Good people skills, able to motivate, lead, and inspire.
  • Good communication skills, able to build genuine long-term relationships.
  • A good understanding of compliance and risk in the countryside.
  • Good organisational skills, able to work independently and prioritise competing demands on your time.
  • Competence with, and relevant qualifications for the use of machinery and equipment.
  • A full UK driving licence.
