Job Title: Principal Nuclear Warhead Safety Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Nuclear Warhead Safety Engineer to join our Warhead Engineering Surety Group at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE).

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer or scientist to undertake technical assessments and provide advice on the major hazards associated with nuclear and explosives products. You will be responsible for providing safety information to Operators to incorporate into their Safety Cases.

Key Responsibilities
  • Undertake technical assessments and provide advice on safety-related research experiments or topics
  • Develop and maintain Safety Cases for nuclear products
  • Provide safety information to Operators to incorporate into their Safety Cases
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety is integrated into product design and development
  • Develop and maintain safety management activities and procedures
Requirements
  • Degree or postgraduate qualifications in Science or Engineering or a related subject
  • Previous experience working on munitions and/or nuclear reactors or other high-hazard industry
  • Knowledge of Safety Case content and ALARP determination
  • Understanding of Defence or Civil nuclear regulations
  • Ability to undertake critical analysis and assessment of complex systems
