About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our team at Barts Health NHS Trust. As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will be responsible for providing specialist assessment and treatment to adults with complex acquired communication and swallowing difficulties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist assessment and treatment to adults with complex acquired communication and swallowing difficulties, including tracheostomy management, rehabilitation, and video fluoroscopy.
  • Work as part of the multi-disciplinary team based at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, delivering therapy services to the Barts Heart Centre and/or Barts Cancer Centre.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to meet the needs of patients with complex communication and swallowing disorders.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care and support for patients.
  • Participate in service developments and education opportunities alongside Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Dietetics, and other SLT colleagues.
Requirements
  • Post-qualification experience working with adults with oncological and/or cardiovascular conditions in a variety of settings, including acute inpatient care.
  • Relevant experience post-qualification in assessment and management of acquired communication/swallowing disorders of neurological aetiology.
  • Experience and knowledge of relevant SLT approaches to palliative patients, including risk feeding principles.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of assessment and intervention tools relevant to complex communication and swallowing in acquired neurological disorders.
  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to critical care, cardiovascular medicine, neurology, respiratory medicine, and oncology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, problem-solving, analytical, and reflection skills.
  • Excellent presentation, organizational, and caseload management skills.
  • A commitment to professional development and a willingness to update skills regularly.
  • A recognized Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification or equivalent, and Health Professions Council - Licence to Practice.
