Job Title: SEN Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join our team at a vibrant and inclusive school in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

About the Role:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with classroom teachers, SEN coordinators, and external professionals to develop and implement effective strategies that meet each student's needs. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored one-to-one and group support for students with a range of SEN, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, and other learning difficulties.
  • Collaborating with teachers to adapt lessons and resources to meet the individual needs of SEN students, ensuring full access to the curriculum.
  • Using positive behaviour management techniques to foster a calm and inclusive classroom environment, helping students develop social and emotional skills.
  • Tracking and assessing student progress, documenting learning outcomes and liaising with teachers, parents, and external specialists to ensure effective interventions.
  • Encouraging students to develop independent learning and life skills, helping them gain confidence in their abilities both inside and outside the classroom.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within an SEN or educational support setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs, particularly those facing social, emotional, or behavioural challenges.
  • GCSEs in Maths and English (minimum Level 2/C Grade).
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and adapting to the individual needs of students.
