Job Title: Assistant Professor of Animation

Lesley University is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Assistant Professor of Animation to join our College of Art and Design. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching animation courses, developing curriculum, and mentoring students in the animation program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach animation courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including character animation, experimental animation, and stop motion animation.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for the animation program, including course syllabi and assessments.
  • Mentor students in the animation program, providing guidance and support in their academic and professional development.
  • Participate in departmental and university-wide meetings and committees, contributing to the development of the animation program and the College of Art and Design.
  • Engage in scholarly activities, including research, creative production, and publication, to maintain expertise and contribute to the field of animation.
Requirements:
  • Master of Fine Arts degree in Animation or a related field, or Bachelor of Fine Arts degree plus at least 5 years of professional experience in animation.
  • Minimum of three years of successful teaching experience at the college or university level, or professional experience in animation.
  • Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring, with the ability to teach courses from foundation to senior level.
  • Demonstrated meritorious professional and scholarly achievement, with a commitment to continued advancement of your professional practice.
  • Experience with curriculum development and implementation, including course design and assessment.
  • Knowledge of a broad range of contemporary practices, theories, concepts, and applications in the animation profession, including the 12 Principles of Animation.
  • Ability to teach traditional character animation, experimental animation, and stop motion animation techniques.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new animation software and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to teach 2D and 3D narrative using game engines such as Unity and UDK.
