Overview

This position is a key component of Shell's Trading and Supply Crude and Product Commercial Freight Operations team, working closely with Freight Traders and Freight Operations to deliver bottom-line value through data analysis and visualization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor real-time consumptions and emissions to identify inefficiencies.
  • Develop and enhance vessel optimization tools to monitor and visualize fleet performance and emissions data.
  • Develop platforms and dashboards to provide data to traders/operators for fleet performance on usage, including average consumption, best speeds, good vs bad performers, best ships to use in certain trades, and emissions.
  • Work closely with the Vessel Performance Manager to provide support and guidance to Freight Trading desks to apply best practices for running time charter fleet.
  • Support real-time interventions with Freight Operations.
  • Engage external service providers on voyage optimization and analytics.
  • Provide commercial and contractual advice on interpretation of clauses and potential exposures for freight trading, especially clauses relevant to vessel performance.
  • Identify areas where there are opportunities to add commercial value and areas where exposure to value leakage exists.
  • Determine and implement ideas from the Shipping Value team that can be applied to the Oil Time Chartered Fleet.
  • Assist the Vessel Performance Manager with data analysis and presentation for engagements with external parties to improve fleet efficiency.
  • Backup for managing vessel performance claims process, delivering bottom-line value for freight trading desks through recoveries of claims.
  • Look for ways to close out disputed claims by liaising with multiple departments in Shell and external parties.
  • Backup for managing relevant Market Related Hire processes such as monthly option declarations, hire invoice approvals, and identification of hire exposures.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization skills with commonly available tools.
  • Ability to extract and analyze data from multiple sources using analytical tools.
  • Self-starter, motivated to learn/develop new skills as per evolving demands of the job.
  • Keen interest in data analytics and key information indicated by numbers.
  • Generic requirements including troubleshooting, problem-solving, interpersonal, communication, project, and time management skills.
