The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the execution of funded biomedical research involving laboratory animals. The individual hired will oversee the breeding, genotyping, and maintenance of experimental mouse colonies, plan experiments, perform animal procedures, and train and oversee lab members involved in animal work. They will also be responsible for maintaining documents related to animal use, including ethics, training, and regulatory documents.
About the TeamThe Johnson laboratory at Northumbria University is part of the Applied Sciences department and the Translational Biosciences research theme. The successful candidate will report directly to Professor Johnson and join a vibrant team of individuals at various career stages who are passionate about their work.
About the PositionThe role holder will be responsible for:
- Assisting in the execution of funded biomedical research involving laboratory animals
- Overseeing the breeding, genotyping, and maintenance of experimental mouse colonies
- Planning and performing animal procedures
- Training and overseeing lab members involved in animal work
- Maintaining documents related to animal use, including ethics, training, and regulatory documents
The successful candidate will possess:
- PIL AB certification
- PIL C certification
- Experience working with laboratory research animals
- Willingness to learn new techniques and assist in procedures such as stereotactic injection
