About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Associate to join our laboratory research team at Newcastle University.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, genetics, and biochemistry, with a focus on bacterial DNA replication and homologous recombination.

Responsibilities will include designing and delivering research projects, analysing and interpreting data, and implementing and optimising laboratory methods.

The role will also involve supervising and training staff, and presenting research findings at national and international conferences.

We are looking for an individual with excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills, who is able to work flexibly and cooperatively with others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead high-quality research projects, managing research activity and supervising research teams.
  • Carry out research within agreed timelines, meeting project milestones and producing research to an appropriate standard.
  • Monitor workload and supervise/train less experienced staff and/or students working across several projects.
  • Publish multiple independent research findings in prominent peer-reviewed journals over a substantial period.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences.
Requirements
  • PhD in a relevant biosciences subject.
  • Substantial experience of designing and delivering research projects.
  • Substantial experience of analysing and interpreting data.
  • Substantial evidence of implementing and optimising laboratory methods.
  • Experience of supervising and training staff.
  • Experience of supervising and training students.
  • Experience of preparing research proposals for submission to competitive funding organisations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of interdisciplinary research project teams.
  • Ability to communicate complex information with clarity.
  • High level of analytical and problem-solving capability.
