Job Overview

Our client, a leading chemical distributor, is seeking an experienced Account Manager to join their team. This is a home-based position with regular travel throughout the UK and Ireland.

Job Purpose

  • Promote and sell chemicals and services across the UK and Ireland.
  • Negotiate contracts of sale to maximize sales.
  • Act as a key point of contact between the company and its customers, answering technical and commercial enquiries, making regular customer visits, and introducing new chemicals and/or principals as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the UK and Ireland Sales Manager and Business Development function to establish and implement sales plans.
  • Promote the portfolio of chemicals and services to maximize sales and meet budget expectations while achieving personal and company objectives.
  • Bear responsibility and accountability for all sales of chemicals within the sales area, organizing and planning sales visits, attending trade exhibitions, conferences, sales meetings, and training as required.
  • Manage and develop both existing and new sales.
  • Perform sales activities on all sales area customer accounts and negotiate sales prices in consultation with the Commercial Manager.
  • Regularly review progress of sales over the budgeted year.
  • Provide sales updates/forecasts on all sales area accounts as and when required.
  • Implement sales policies, practices, and procedures in line with instruction from the UK and Ireland Sales Manager.
  • Undertake professional development training to enhance all aspects of the salesperson's role when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Chemistry/Science graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience of working within a technical environment.
  • Some field sales experience in the chemical industry is desirable but not essential.
  • Business acumen and some commercial experience is desirable.
  • Clean and current UK driving license.
  • Comfortable with the volume of traveling required to cover the territory.
  • Team player.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • The ability to self-motivate.
  • Friendly, efficient customer service attitude both face-to-face and via the phone or online.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Comfortable and confident when presenting to customers and colleagues.
  • The ability to listen and interpret customer needs.
  • Forward-thinking and proactive attitude to problem-solving.
  • Fluent in English, in both verbal and written communication.
  • Proficient at Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

What We Offer

In return, our client is offering a salary of approximately £40,000 per annum basic, plus car, bonus, and benefits.
