We are seeking an aspiring sub-editor to join our team and help shape the content of our prestigious publication.
The six-month fellowship offers a paid contract, allowing you to develop your skills and expertise in the final stages of news production.
What You Will Learn- You will be embedded in our main sub-editing teams, helping produce the newspaper and working on the digital publishing desk.
- You will sub-edit articles for our different editions, cutting them to length and writing headlines, standfirsts, and captions. You will learn how to lay out pages and sign them off before they go to print.
- You will revise-edit content for our website, learning to hit the highest standards of accuracy and quality, often under tight time pressure. You will be taught how to write engaging digital headlines and add visual components to engage readers.
- Show an interest in current affairs and financial news.
- Care deeply about accuracy and good grammar.
- Be aware of what makes an attention-grabbing headline, both in print and online.
- Be capable of keeping a cool head under deadline pressure.
As part of this role, you will participate in a support programme that includes induction training, monthly masterclasses, wellbeing support, buddying/mentoring, and more.
This fellowship is open exclusively to Black candidates to help address historical under-representation in the creative industries and support greater diversity.
Key Details:
- Duration: 6 months
- Hours: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday
- Location: Hybrid working from our London office 3 days a week (Tuesday-Thursday)
- Salary: £2,400 per month
