About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Shift Engineer to join our team at our Middlesbrough facility. This permanent position reports directly to the Engineering Manager and plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our production processes.

Your primary responsibility will be to swiftly resolve any plant breakdowns that occur on site. You will also work closely with the Maintenance Manager to diligently execute the planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedule, encompassing daily, weekly, and annual tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Effectively diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager to implement and adhere to the PPM schedule, ensuring all scheduled maintenance activities are completed on time and to the required standards.
  • Proactively identify potential maintenance issues and implement preventative measures to avoid future breakdowns.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, including repairs, inspections, and parts used.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and promote a culture of safety within the team.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a food processing environment is highly advantageous.
  • Electrical and/or mechanical qualifications or a time-served apprenticeship.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in an automated production setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic understanding of food hygiene and health & safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and computer literacy (word, excel, windows-based packages).
Desirable Skills:
  • PLC programming experience.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, temperature control, and instrumentation.
  • Welding skills.
