Apprentice Quantity Surveyor

The Quantity Surveyor plays a pivotal role in providing accurate and value-generating input to projects, working closely with delivery teams within the civils team and associated rail interface works.
This position ensures that all commercial aspects are carried out in accordance with the contract, company policies, and procedures, meeting the satisfaction of the customer and/or contract leader.
Key Responsibilities- Efficiently manage and issue accurate, timely, and compliant notices and correspondence.
- Prepare and assess applications, valuations, cost/value reconciliations, and forecasts.
- Control costs and prepare monthly reports on value, cost, profit/loss, cash flow, and budget.
- Prepare and agree on applications for payment or assess and prepare payment certificates.
- Develop project forecasting and assist with Risk and Value Management to optimize solutions.
- Monitor and review commercial risks with the project team, identifying, analyzing, and developing responses.
- Manage contracts, including contractual forms, budgetary control methods, and relevant software applications.
- Prepare supply chain enquiries, negotiate, administer, and finalize/close out supply chain contracts.
- Ensure all notifications/documents are managed in accordance with the contract and customer/company policy.
- Maintain ongoing liaison with site teams, subcontractors, and customer representatives.
- Undertake record-keeping, including collating site records, preparing meeting packs, meeting invites, and taking meeting minutes.
- Provide contractual advice to the project/site team as needed.
- Maintain awareness of current construction contracts and understand Client and Partners Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes, and statutory requirements.
- Demonstrate financial and commercial acumen.
- Experience with NEC3.
- Demonstrate forecasting experience.
- Manage subcontractors and work packages.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Practical approach, logical thought process, and methodical work style.
- Creative and innovative problem-solving approach.
- Experience with office management systems, including filing systems and document control/distribution.
- Technical minute-taking at contractual meetings and ability to collate information and prepare reports.
- Drafting contractual correspondence on behalf of the Project Manager and preparation of payment certificates and interim financial reports.
- Contributing to procurement and contract strategies.
- Negotiating and team-working skills, with the ability to motivate and lead.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Demonstrate legal, contractual, and construction knowledge.
- Confidence and ability to assert influence.
- Hold an RICS/CICES accredited Degree (or equivalent) or be enrolled on an accredited part-time post-graduate Degree.
