Mechanical Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Symmetric Recruitment Ltd. As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of new components and equipment for maritime and sub-sea applications.
About the Role:This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team and contribute to the design and development of complex bespoke systems for marine applications. You will work closely with our multi-disciplined team of mechanical, electrical, and software engineers to design, test, and construct complete systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and develop new components and equipment for maritime and sub-sea applications
- Work closely with the design team to create complex part assembly models using Autodesk Inventor or similar software
- Verify designs by calculation at both scheme and detail stages using conventional hand calculations or electronic means
- Produce formal engineering drawings to internationally recognised standards
- Design both close-tolerance parts and assemblies and larger fabricated parts and assemblies
- Work with and design to engineering design codes, including marine classification rules and international standards
- Produce design submittal documentation and associated reports in a timely manner
- Sound understanding of metal fabrication processes, machining capabilities, and the ability to convert manufacturing information into production-ready drawings
- Good working knowledge of different engineering materials, including metals, plastics, and composites
- Understanding of corrosion management in a marine environment
- Liaise with clients and suppliers on an individual basis or as part of a wider team
- Time served apprenticeship with relevant industry experience
- HND in Mechanical Engineering with at least 3 years relevant experience
- Honours degree (BSc or BEng) or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering
