About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Building Control Officer to join our team on a part-time, interim basis.

Key Details:

  • Rate of Pay: £21.98 per hour PAYE
  • Working Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday, normal working hours
  • Duration: 4-5 months
  • Location: BURY
  • Working Model: Hybrid working

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled and experienced professional to make a real difference in ensuring that building works are carried out safely and in accordance with regulations.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Advice and Guidance: Provide expert advice to developers and contractors on building regulations and legislation, ensuring compliance within the context of the Council's constraints.
  2. Liaison and Communication: Liaise with relevant organisations, conduct site meetings and inspections, make recommendations and issue completion statements as necessary.
  3. Record Keeping: Maintain and update computerised records of all inspections related to building regulations.
  4. Investigations and Enforcement: Investigate complaints from the public, elected members and staff, provide advice on building issues outside of building regulations and enforce compliance through negotiation or prosecution as required.
  5. Emergency Response: Respond to emergency situations relating to dangerous structures, make safe through removal of dangerous conditions and represent the Authority at Court as necessary.
  6. Cross-Divisional Collaboration: Work with other departments to ensure compliance with registration and licensing conditions, including temporary structures and safety standards.
  7. Development Support: Assist with siting of buildings, supervise land charge searches and naming/numbering of streets in new residential developments.
  8. Reporting and Performance: Prepare reports for the Chief Planning Officer or Building Control Section, make recommendations and monitor performance and output.
  9. Team Leadership: Supervise and allocate work to Assistant Building Control officers and Technical Assistants, monitor performance and identify training needs.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications: Full member of CABE or RICS (Building Control)
  • Driving Licence: Full driving licence and access to a car

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Building Construction: Detailed knowledge of building construction
  • Building Regulations: Excellent knowledge of Building Regulations
  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • IT: Good IT skills
  • Flexibility: Ability to attend work outside normal office hours in the event of an emergency
