About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Transfer Station Supervisor to join our team at Biffa, a leading waste management company. As a Transfer Station Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing frontline operations, supervising a team of operatives, and ensuring compliance with health and safety, site permit, and environmental legislation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and allocate work instructions to transfer station operatives
  • Manage mobile plant, including liaison with suppliers for parts, breakdown, and service
  • Ensure compliance with environmental legislation and site licence/PPC permit
  • Contribute to cost control, improving efficiency, reducing operating costs, and meeting budget targets
  • Manage, motivate, train, and develop a team as required
  • Effectively manage absence, underperformance, and misconduct, implementing disciplinary procedures as necessary
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols, including H&S induction and training, operating procedures, near miss reporting, and emergency procedures
  • Complete administrative tasks, including daily site checks, weekly sales orders, and weekly stock taking
  • Ensure adequate staff cover during operational hours, including overtime and holiday rotas
  • Maintain a good working relationship with internal and external customers
  • Deputise for the Transfer Station Manager and perform other reasonable tasks as required
Requirements:
  • WAMITAB Certificate of Technical Competence (preferably with certificates for Transfer hazardous, pre-treatment, and processing or similar equivalent)
  • Experience as a mobile plant operator for tele-handler, loading shovel, and wheeled 360 grab machine (FLT experience an advantage but not essential)
  • Good working knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation
  • Experience managing front-line staff
  • Computer literacy and comfort using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for presentations
  • Full Weighbridge training provided
