Job Summary

United Living Group is seeking a highly skilled Design Manager to lead our design team in delivering innovative and sustainable solutions. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing, producing, and approving temporary works solutions, as well as leading technical teams and ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and produce temporary works solutions, including stress assessments using steel, timber, and polymers.
  • Lead technical teams and ensure the effective and efficient delivery of projects.
  • Review alternative build methods and practices, and keep up to date on new and innovative products.
  • Liaise with clients, project teams, and commercial managers to ensure technical functions are effective and efficient.
  • Organize and manage regular technical coordination workshops, package reviews, and design team meetings.
  • Ensure translation of conceptual schemes into efficient and workable commercial solutions.
  • Oversee document control, including registration and distribution of design and technical information.
  • Review tenders and assess the quality of received information, identify value engineering opportunities, and risks.
  • Review and interrogate consultants' and sub-contractors' drawings, and hold package review meetings with relevant site team members.
  • Monitor production information and consultant activities against budgetary allowances, and report any variances.
  • Ensure United Living's drive for world-class Health and Safety is delivered in all aspects of work.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience working and delivering design solutions from first principles.
  • MEng/MSc in a relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Structural, Civil).
  • Chartered Engineer with a relevant institution.
  • Experience in leading technical teams.
  • Ideal experience as Design/Engineering Manager previously.
  • Ideal familiarity with and experience working to National Grid/Cadent/SGN/NGN specifications and design procedures.
  • Management skills – staff, clients, commercial, and programmes.
