Job Overview

SMT GB is seeking an experienced Workshop Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our workshop team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy construction plant to ensure high standards of quality and efficiency.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Maintenance and repair of Volvo construction equipment and other machinery.
  2. Ensuring compliance with quotations and time guidelines, and communicating any additional work requirements to management.
  3. Maintaining a personal toolkit to ensure effective job completion.
  4. Staying up-to-date with new software updates and implementing them in a timely manner.
  5. Accurate completion of paperwork, including oil sample reports and service inspection reports.
  6. Completing electronic time registration inputs in real-time, providing comprehensive details of the work undertaken.
  7. Procuring parts as necessary and returning them in clean condition upon job completion.
  8. Flexibility to work overtime as required.
  9. Attending relevant product or systems training courses to enhance technical competence.
  10. Adhering to SMT GB's ISO standards for health, safety, quality, and environmental responsibility.
Requirements and Expectations

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • A formal engineering qualification in Plant Maintenance, Agricultural/HGV mechanics.
  • Relevant experience in the repair and maintenance of heavy construction plant.
  • Proven technical competence on diesel engines, transmissions, drive lines, hydraulics, and electronics.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with colleagues, management, and customers.
  • A cost-conscious mindset to maximize profitability.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and diagnostic skills.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • High standards and attention to detail.
  • Conscientious approach to all aspects of the job.
  • Reliability, honesty, and trustworthiness.
  • Ability to understand technical literature, including service bulletins and parts books.

The estimated salary for this role is £42,000-£52,000 per annum, depending on experience.
