About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Research Engineer to join our Cyber Evaluations Team at the AI Safety Institute. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in developing first-of-its-kind government-run infrastructure to benchmark the progress of advanced AI capabilities in the domain of cyber security.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct robust empirical tests of AI systems to better understand their capabilities in cyber security tasks
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of cybersecurity researchers, machine learning researchers, research engineers, and infrastructure engineers to create new kinds of capability and safety evaluations
  • Develop and lead software projects to meet research requirements, demonstrating cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Work with world-class multi-disciplinary teams, including scientists and engineers, to advance AI safety research
  • Contribute to the development of large language models and their evaluation
Requirements
  • Relevant experience in industry, open-source collectives, or academia in a field related to machine learning, AI, AI security, or computer security
  • Extensive Python experience, including understanding the intricacies of the language
  • Direct research experience, such as a PhD in a technical field or spotlight papers at NeurIPS/ICML/ICLR
  • Experience working with large language models, including pre-training and fine-tuning
