We're a FTSE 250 Financial Services company who specialise in retirement solutions. Our world is moving quickly, with the defined benefit buy in / buy out space growing each year. We're looking for a Senior Actuarial Analyst to support our DB Business Plan.

Purpose

The purpose of this role is to undertake pricing and actuarial input required to support delivery of the DB Business Plan. This will include all aspects of BAU delivery and other ad hoc requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Support DB Pricing Actuary in accurate and timely delivery of new business quotations.
  2. Populate and run pricing models to calculate premiums, including manipulation of data, assumption setting, and calculation of all associated pricing metrics.
  3. Check drafts of internal sign-off documentation produced by DB Actuarial Analysts for each quotation, ensuring results are presented to the DB Pricing Actuary in a clear manner, outlining all material areas of judgement and limitations.
  4. For quotes that are outsourced, work with DB Actuarial Analyst and DB Pricing Actuary to transition scheme to outsourcer and produce final deliverables for the quotation.
  5. Proactively drive projects forward to ensure they are progressed in line with expected timescales.
  6. Develop a deep knowledge of all systems and tools used in DB pricing.
  7. Provide support in ad hoc tasks such as data analysis, proposition developments, systems testing, and process improvements.
  8. Proactively work to promote a culture of collaboration and engagement within the DB Pricing team.

Requirements

  • Working towards FIA qualification and making good progress with the actuarial exams is desirable, but we are also interested in someone who has ceased working towards an actuarial qualification.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Sound knowledge of technical actuarial concepts, particularly principles underlying bulk annuity pricing.
  • Good knowledge and awareness of the DB buy in/buy out market, life insurance, and relevant regulation.
