The Trade Marketing Manager is a key member of our Trade Marketing team within the wider Commercial Own Brand group, responsible for implementing the Trade Marketing strategy and securing supplier investment that drives performance across our retail, coffee shops, and pubs and bars.

Main Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with sales channel teams to develop Trade Marketing strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Nurture and maintain strong relationships with key trade partners, working with them to showcase SSP network, understand Brand Plans, create shared objectives, and develop marketing initiatives.
  • Create Activation Plans, coordinate the creation of marketing POS materials, and allocate resources for supplier campaigns.
  • Analyze sales data, market trends, and stay up-to-date on competitor activities.
  • Work closely with business channel teams to implement the Annual Trade Marketing Plan.
  • Work closely with Purchasing to align on supplier negotiation.
  • Work closely with Finance to ensure all activity is invoiced in a timely manner.
  • Track and forecast annual TM income for Suppliers within remit.
  • Input into annual TM budget development proposal.
  • Support the organization of the annual Supplier Conference to share SSP trading strategy, build relationships, and grow TM investment into SSP from suppliers.
  • Support and stand-in for Senior Trade Marketing Manager.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in a similar Trade Marketing role, including strategy and budget development.
  • Advanced supplier relationship building and development skills.
  • Advanced negotiation skills.
  • Strong business acumen and understanding of sales drivers.
  • Ability to spot opportunities and turn them into profitable activities.
  • Ability to project manage multiple workstreams and priorities to ensure delivery of the strategy.
  • Ability to drive decision-making through fact-based analysis.
  • Experience of drawing out business insights from analysis and presenting findings and recommendations persuasively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Good understanding of the operational reality in units, including environment, service, labor, waste, equipment, space, and layout.
  • Team leading, coaching, and development experience.

Desirable Skills and Personal Attributes

  • Buying/Commercial plus Marketing experience.
  • Innovative and bold, able to find new ways of doing things, challenge the status quo, and take an entrepreneurial approach.
  • Ability to build and work to a solid plan to achieve targets, but not afraid to adapt to changes to take advantage of opportunities and quick wins as they arise.
  • Working collaboratively and at pace.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
