About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled UK Tax Accountant to join our team at Allen & Overy. As a key member of our Partners' Affairs and Tax team, you will play a critical role in the management of our UK tax affairs, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, and providing high-quality tax advice to our business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of partnership tax computations, including the worldwide 'Trading Income' of our primary LLP entities, and submission of partnership tax returns to HM Revenue & Customs.
  • Preparation of UK tax computations for various other UK and non-UK partnerships and timely submission of tax returns.
  • Preparation of corporate tax and wider governance returns, including SAO, for our subsidiary corporate entities.
  • Key role in year-end closing process, including assisting in the preparation of Deferred Tax calculations.
  • Assisting in the tax accounting and preparation of tax notes for disclosure in our statutory accounts.
  • Completion of VAT returns, including management and reconciliation of VAT accounting.
  • Advising partners and finance teams on complex VAT matters.
  • Involvement in various projects, such as tax digitalisation, Capital allowances, employment tax aspects, business structuring, etc.

Requirements

  • Experience in the preparation of UK tax computations.
  • Strong analytical and numeracy skills with an ability to focus on detail.
  • Particularly strong IT skills, specifically with the use of Excel.
  • Ability to analyse and communicate complex technical tax and accounting matters and provide clear/accurate advice both orally and in writing to non-specialists.
  • Experience of submitting corporate and partnership tax returns online using tax software packages, including Alphatax and CCH Personal Tax or similar.
  • The ability to communicate effectively and build strong relationships with partners, external tax advisers, finance teams, and other support functions.
  • Collaborative approach and ability to build strong relationships with team colleagues and more broadly in London and Belfast, as well as with colleagues in other teams located across the globe.
  • Good time management and organisational skills.
  • Knowledge of tax issues affecting professional partnerships is desirable.
  • An appropriate professional financial qualification, CTA/ACA/ACCA/ATT or qualified by experience is essential.
