Job Summary

The Chief Healthcare Science Officer will provide professional leadership to the Welsh Government's healthcare science workforce, supporting the development of policies and strategies that promote health sciences and diagnostics in Wales.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide input and advice to senior leaders and officials on policy developments in healthcare science, working closely with partners inside and outside of Government.
  • Advise on legislation and standards that promote health sciences, collaborating with policy directorates across Welsh Government.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with Executive Directors of Therapies and Healthcare Sciences and other key stakeholders in the Welsh NHS.
  • Represent the healthcare science workforce in NHS Wales and health science service provision, including imaging, pathology, genomics, and diagnostics.
  • Champion the profession within Wales and the UK, supporting scientific initiatives and staying abreast of professional developments.
  • Liaise with statutory and academic bodies, NHS leads, and professional representative organizations.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with other heads of profession for Healthcare Science in the UK.
  • Work with Health Education and Improvement Wales to secure and grow undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education and training opportunities for the health sciences in Wales.
Requirements
  • PhD or equivalent qualifications or experience in a scientific subject relevant to the healthcare sciences profession.
  • Registered Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) Healthcare professional.
