GKR Scaffolding Ltd is seeking a talented Graduate Scaffold Design Engineer to join their team in a 2-year programme. This is an exciting opportunity to learn and grow in a specialist area of Temporary Works Engineering that is in high demand within the construction industry.
The successful candidate will be based at our Tower Bridge location and will work closely with our design team on complex and iconic projects. Our team has worked on notable projects such as Battersea Power Station, 22 Bishopsgate, The Royal Albert Hall, and Tottenham Hotspur's new stadium.
Key Responsibilities- Design scaffolding and temporary works in accordance with British and European codes of practice and UK construction and health & safety legislation.
- Apply engineering knowledge to analyze the structural integrity of scaffolding and temporary works structures.
- Assess and design-out hazards where possible and propose effective control measures for the reduction and elimination of risk.
- Conduct site surveys, collect and assess site information, liaise with clients and fellow construction professionals, and represent the company at design and site meetings.
- Understand the practicalities of the erection, use, and dismantle of scaffolding, as well as its main functions in key industry sectors, and apply this knowledge to improve our service provision, processes, and standards.
- Uphold the name and reputation of GKR Scaffolding Ltd at all times and conduct yourself in a professional and dignified manner in keeping with the values of the company.
- The role of the Scaffold Design Engineer, including responsibilities to society, the environment, and future generations.
- Current legislation and regulations to ensure you know how to exercise your responsibilities and protect the interests of the public, client, and GKR Scaffolding.
- Codes of practice and industry guidance, including TG20 Design and Operational Guide and EN Temporary Works Equipment.
- Production of design drawings, ensuring that all designs meet the minimum requirements and are safe to use.
- On-site information collection, including current UK site conditions, site roles, and how to collect relevant information for a scaffold design.
- Design risk assessments, including the process and completion of the design risk assessment and the ability to apply legislation and regulations.
- Buildability and commercial awareness, including the impact of design on the buildability and commercial viability of a project.
- Structural analysis, including the roles to maintain structural integrity and how to use a structural analysis software and check the results provided.
- Analysis of complex structures, including familiarity with different complex structures and their behavior, understanding of considerations and potential setbacks, and structural analysis tips.
- Ambitious graduate design engineer with excellent communication skills, ability to articulate plans clearly, and collaborate with clients and the GKR team.
- Highly analytical with forensic attention to detail.
- Adaptable with ability to work across multiple projects and manage a number of stakeholders.
- Proactive approach to learning and developing skills supported by the business.
- Ability to evaluate new technologies/platforms in line with business needs.
Full-time, permanent position subject to 6 months' probation. Located at Tower Bridge Road, London, with standard working hours from Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:30, and Friday 08:00 – 16:00.
