Job Description

The AtkinsRéalis Infrastructure Project Delivery Practice (PDP) is the centre of excellence for the delivery of infrastructure projects, combining the best in project management and design management to provide a full suite of services to clients in the public and private sectors.

The team is responsible for delivering design services across our markets of Water Infrastructure, Defence Infrastructure, Nuclear, Aviation, Energy, Rail (stations), and Urban Developments.

We are seeking a Design Manager to join our Epsom and South-East practice, based from the Epsom office.

This role will be responsible for the delivery of multi-disciplinary projects from concept through to construction, on our expanding portfolio of the biggest and most challenging projects across the Defence market.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver projects to agreed targets, including programme, budget, and quality.
  • Identify and agree project objectives with the Design Director and develop a strategy for achieving these.
  • Manage potential contractual/commercial risks to Atkins and escalate to the Project Director at the earliest opportunity.
  • Lead the project team, building, motivating, and developing the team, including providing regular feedback.
  • Ensure safety is prioritised throughout delivery.
  • Facilitate communication, coordination, and information flow with the Client and within the project team.
  • Assemble and own the project delivery programme and delivery plans.
  • Closing out the project on completion, updating market information, and ensuring lessons learnt are captured and disseminated internally.

Requirements:

  • Chartered Engineer/Architect or equivalent with experience managing design commissions on large infrastructure projects.
  • Experience across a range of construction projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities.
  • Understanding and experience in deploying various forms of construction contract, particularly NEC3/NEC4.
  • Experience of managing design projects to time, cost, and quality objectives and familiar with programming and earned value techniques.
  • Familiar with BIM and 3D modelling tools for design and coordination purposes.
  • Customer-focused with excellent client relationship management skills.
